AND THE STORY IS OUR PAST…
…is a self published artist’s book I made as part of my MA in Illustration. It tells a story about memory, trauma and repair, through portraits of people I had conversations with. *
Some people shared their feelings around memory, whilst others had experienced trauma of some kind, and generously spoke about their memories, ways of processing and forms of repair. Drawings are erased and redrawn to illustrate the disruption trauma can have on memory, and the sense of residue some people said that trauma left them with.
Ordinarily, memory is fluid, adaptive and essentially social. It allows us so share our lived experiences and form connections based on the stories we tell. Traumatic memories are often fragmented, uncomfortable and separated from a sense of narrative. My project explored how this story can be told.

MOONFLOWER | WORDS ON WALKING HOME
MOONFLOWER | WORDS ON WALKING HOME
A self published zine that documents the experience of walking home at night.
Women feel less safe than men in all settings after dark (Source: Office for National Statistics, 2022). So I asked 36 people (women, and two non-binary) about their experiences walking home at night, and used their words to tell a story about how it feels to be unsafe.
They spoke of their fear, the harrassment, precautions and threats, but also the beauty and magical quality of nightime.
Whilst there are no written details or illustrations of attacks, it may still be difficult to read if you have experienced assault.
